Yell a’ ha’e heard tell o’ Bonnie Jeanie Cameron

I'm almost made up my mind about my master's thesis. It will probably have Jenny Cameron as it's centre, but how to write about her, that is the question. It might help that I would read the documents about her first...

Why to write about '45? Basically because of the clothes. I'm going to print pictures to raise my motivation, and no way I'm going to stare a picture of a slave or something for one year, minimum. No! I want to stare 18th century corset and silk dresses.

I'm interested about romanticm, and I think dashing Charlie is pretty romantic. One very good point of view would be to compare the treatment of Jenny and Flora MacDonald. Unfortunatelly the "all-comprizing" ECCO doesn't find much writing about Flora from 1745-1749, which has been my main focus. But I can always change it. The reason I didn't take Flora in the forst place was her picture:

She looks so bored and resigned that I wouldn't want to spend much time with her. On the contrary Jenny:

She's got fire in her eyes. I really fell in love with that picture, even if the actual Jenny was over 40 at the time of the rebellion... The picture at the top, oil painting by Allan Ramsay and thought to present Henny is very pretty also. It's also presenting the beginnings of a nipple-gate, therefore easy to relate... Interesting; the internet is telling me that Ramsay painted also the above Flora!

In the end I know that picture is quite stupid heart of a research. But basically I don't care! The writing will take such a long time that I'm not going to spend it on something ugly. The subject is starting to bore me already, after few weeks, but luckily I know that soon I'll have pretty pictures on my wall, such as Bonnie Prince:

Problems in paradise

I've got my travel fever back, hurrah! Uno problema though. What the fuck, all the hostels require visa or master?!! In north Europe you don't have to pay anything before you arrive! I only have visa electron, that's why I must use Blue1 and not the cheap planes... This is going to be tricky. I'll be in Barcelona after 8 in the evening, depending how much the plane's late. Not a noce time to search a resting place. Another problem is, that every other reviewer claims a hostel is perfect, an other that it's crap. If a hostel has had bed bugs 3 years ago, is there any still? Especially if it's like 9€? One was the most perfect, but about 10km from centre... And what reservation machine is trustworthy? I've usually reserved straight to hostel, but in sweet Cataluña no hostel accepts bloody electron. And none of my family has visa! Bugger! But hey, it's not so cold in February, is it?

I was also at a meeting of teaching planning... meeting. There was 4 teachers and me. Quite weird... Bet they won't welcome me back! And tomorrow is our student organosation's meeting where I have to deliver my foundings. Greeat. Also tomorrow is a meeting of one contemporary history -course, of which lections I attented only once. I'm such a pro! The teacher loves me so much that he announced in front of the whole auditorium I won't get nice remarks. Well, he didn't say my name, but he looked at me. That what you get for taking a few (5) years off... I still hope I get like 3 or 4 out of 5, but I think it was fun just for his angered face!

And about my thesis, I almost got it finished to show it to the professor and seminar, but then I remembered how fucking amazing my bachelor thing was, and I haven't shown my face at the seminar since

birthday update

Now it's time for that "cheer" birthday update. I wrote another, but it was so morbid and awful and stuff that I deleted it. Unfortunately I don't feel so light any more... Quite bored actually. I've had my bithday dress, which I bought on Friday, on the whole day. It's made of lace, and I thought it was grey until I put my grey tights on. Now it's grey blue. It's nice and short, but unfortunatelly it's size 42, that is far too big. In the shop it was ok, but now it makes me look soo fat. It's so loose that it doesn't even make a cleavage, an effect I badly need. Were I ever to use it public I should baste it a little... But what's new? every birthday dress has been too big.

My winter look. Sexy.

But now I know I must loose weight. It's not the tummy, but the hips, not nice. Luckily I use tight clothes, so it doesn't show so much. Less chocolate, maybe 3 times a week, better make it 4 times I'll buy in contrast to every day as it's now. And my nemesis, carbohydrate. I mean really. How is it possible to eat less spaghetti and rice, when they are the bases of every meal? And bread. I love wheat bread! Gosh, if I only had a boyfriend already this problem would be solved.

What next? Oh yes, the thesis. Not working!!! It's a piece of shit! Now Im thinking of Elgin marbles, but my professor's not happy and no one else. I sure as hell am not going to do it of aestethic idiotic stuff for which I'm too stupid or of some Priapos and phallos loving Payne Knight (yeah, thanks for the tip, prof. You're weird). What to do? Not asking my school friends, who were the only ones not to congratulate me. I mean how hard is it to click like in FB? BOOO!

Oh yes, now you can watch in live me opening my present. It's pink and has pearls around it. Argh, the paper has bee nglued together! And taped to the box! Hahaa, freedom! It's Californication s2 dvd! What a surprise, since I made the choise in the shop myself! But it's like the best birthday present ever! Our family doesn't do the birthdays, since they are so close to christmas for my sister also. I bought myself a "present" also. I was hoping to get some of my friends here or to la fiesta or something out, so I bought some alcohol. Well they didn't come. I was asked to see a Holiday in Rome movie to a girl I don't like much and a cat I like even less. The movie is horrible and the girl is on a diet without alcohol, meet, grains, anything good, so I stayed home, watching Lark rise to Candleford and drinking my chocolate-milk-mintchocolate-cream with etanol. Heaven!!! It was spot on! There's still some left, but only because I'm out of cacao and milk and outside is incredibly wet! (Yes, the 2m's snow has turned into 2m's of slush). So in your faces, cunts! Especially since I just tried to take pictures of how much fun I had, all by myself and failed miserably. Some people just don't photograph well, I suppose. I mean, I'm not very hideous when I look into the mirror, although My face is fat... That's really unfair. Some weight 200kg's and don't even have double chin, I had one when I was anorexic! But now I leave you to drink that etanol cream, yammy!

And that's our cat eating with it's fingers.

Caledonian Dreams

Sunday boredom

Now it's sunday, mothers' day and all the shops are closed and it's raining and I don't have anything to eat. So... I saw a tv-programme, where people went to Wales. That Reminded me of Scotland. I lived there, on the east coast, for a year, but I never got to visit west coast, which is the more famous scenery of Scotland ( and the accent). I planned to take the Jacobite steam train from Fort Williams to Mallaig and I almost bought the tickets, but shit happens... It would have been so amaising!!!

Anyway, Jacobites are a wee interest of mine, I did some years ago a kind of stupid reseach paper on Jacobite rebellion's history through folk songs. It might have been good, if done better... However, I've just written my Batchelor's thesis which weared me out completely. I've been thinking with horror about time after summer when I have to start my master's thesis. But now, thanks to that stupid programme, I started waisting my sunday in researching.

I think Master's thesis is quite important in marking out one's special interests in future working life, and that's why I must write on something I really like, not just on something weird, ( like Batchelor thesis about 2nd WW Japan. Everybody keeps asking how I became interested about atomic destruction. How the fuck should I know?!!!) And I think, because I know languages, maybe I should think using them! I bought from Culloden a book about female Jacobites ( Damn' Rebel Bitches). And I have read a book about French Jacobite females. So why not write dissertation about Flora MacDonald and Charlotte Corday, the first saved Bonnie Prince Charlie after Jacobite defeat, the second murdered Marat, Jacobite leader in French Revolution. Actually tey are quite far fetched. Is there anything in common about the two Jacobite rebellions, except they happened at the opposing ends of the same century? Scotland and France were friends, but there still was that Enlightment in between them. Quite an obstacle. And of course Scottich were usually high class people, where French were bourgeois. I'm quite proud of finding Flora for my example. She was low class lass. (Scottish words!!!)

But I really should take some time off form thinking. I still have three books to read to one exam. When that's finished it's summer holiday!!! (except those summer exams which I should have done before...) What summer's gonna be like? I don't have any work, my friends (the one friend ) is going back to China, and I'm stuck in a shitty appartement far from city centre in a place where only first year students live. But with any luck I'll have a ball.

Above first there's a picture of highlands and the train, stolen from Westcoastrailways.co.uk. Next one's my own from Pantheon, Paris and the altar of republical idea.
